This month on Om Shanti: A Yoga Blog, we’re giving away the Ergo Insulated Water Bottle from Polar Bottle, a Colorado-based company that makes BPA- and Phthalate-free bottles. This particular bottle is especially well-suited for practitioners of hot yoga, Ashtanga, and vinyasa flow. If you practice one of these styles of yoga, sweating profusely is just part of the process. So it’s important to stay hydrated, whether you drink water throughout your practice or you believe in rehydrating only afterwards.
But why bother bringing your own water bottle to yoga? For starters, it’s a much better choice for the environment. Instead of buying bottled water at the studio, or using a disposable cup to get a single drink of water from the cooler, you can bring your own reusable bottle and reduce waste. Another consideration is hygiene — I used to practice at a studio that provided beautiful ceramic mugs for water and tea, but the “clean” and “dirty” cups were constantly getting mixed up. (Fun times during flu season!) Finally, a water bottle is very handy if you practice on a Yogitoes or other yoga towel — these non-slip yoga towels actually need to be damp in order for them to do their magic, so you’ll often see yogis pouring water on their mats before and even during class.
Here’s the theme of this month’s giveaway:
Do you enjoy heated yoga? If so, how hot is too hot?
