hey i got the same thing! rightd wrist pain. started one week ago. I believe that i am not doing chaturanga correctly and as a result got wrist pain when rotating to the sides. Its getting better now but is still sore. i'm stretching and icing. my pain goes up to my forearms elbows and even upper traps. doesn't interfere with everyday stuff. taking a week off yoga too to let it heal. how long did it take to feel better? thanks

Hi,
Yoga is beneficial for the health in ways that modern science is just beginning to understand. Even though it has beenapplied with therapeutic intention for thousand of years, Yoga Therapy is only just now emerging as a discipline initself.
More health care practitioners are starting to include yogic techniques in their approach to healing -- andmore yoga teachers give a therapeutic intention to their teaching. People who have never tried yoga before are startingto consider including Yoga in their treatment plan.
As science begins to document the importance of understanding the interrelation of all existing things, it looks to Yogawith an intrigued eye, for Yoga speaks Unity in every word. As yoga techniques are researched and new data is gathered,it becomes easier for science and the medical establishment to understand and accept the benefits of Yoga Therapy.Yet there is still not one consensual definition of the discipline.
In order to arrive to an adequate definition and tocome up with proper standards for Yoga Therapy, it is crucial at this early stage to properly address some delicateprofessional and ethical issues. At the same time it is important to educatethegeneralpublic about Yoga Therapy'sbenefits and careful use.
so this article will really helpful to me..

I have been fortunate to start a yoga practice in the svastha 'style' as taught by the Mohans (which is to say, yoga in the style of Krishnamacharya). To attach yourself to the body image is against the core tenets of the yoga sutras - none of my teachers have ever pushed for this - rather more focus on the breath, the core, being steady & comfortable.

Well said!

My current teacher often notes that nobody said that yoga is supposed to be easy or comfortable, and his classes certainly are neither.

However, he also stresses that you really shouldn't be breaking a sweat, something that at first surprised me, coming from a typical American-style vinyasa background (although I never weighed my clothes - that's something else!).

He also notes as Liz does, that yoga without attention to the breath is just gymnastics.

And most importantly, class is where you learn, home is where you practice. This has been the most relevatory.

In the approach I teach, we would consider any yoga without attention to breath (ujjayi) and awareness as simply gymnastics! we would increase intensity by slowing the breath down, or using krama for example. So yes, agree with you fully!

Thank you. I enjoyed reading about your Yoga history. It's fascinating because it's the exact opposite of mine. I have approached Yoga almost entirely from the philosophy and spiritual angle.

Partly this is because I already had a highly demanding physical practice--competitive tennis. In fact, I originally got into Yoga to inprove my flexibility for tennis. But I quickly became enamored with the other aspects of Yoga.

Please see http://Yoga Demystified.com for the opposite end of the Yoga spectrum.

I love the diversity of Yoga.

I just googled "eating before yoga" to back up my theory on not eating for 2-3 hrs (or just light snacking). Your words are right on! Thanks for being the most relevant and useful hit!
